Project description: This project is advertised as part of the Critical Decade for Climate Change – Leverhulme Doctoral Scholars programme. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an online interview, currently planned at the end of May 2021.
The Critical Climate Change Decade presents an urgent opportunity to understand how global climate change narratives are shared and understood. Local, non-hegemonic discourses – stories, language-use, understandings, world-views, especially from the global South – do not seem to have the currency of climate change discourses generated in the global North. It is important to widen understanding and diversify narratives because while climate processes influence physical realities, stories, narratives and understandings govern responses, impacts on livelihoods and real-world riposte and mitigation. Stories, in sum, offer agency and hope.
